Take The Kids to London

By

Going to London for a family holiday is a great way to expose your kids to all the arts, learning, culture, and fun that the capital has to offer.

While many think of London as a city for high rollers and people wish cash to spare, there are plenty of low-cost options and London hotel deals available for families who would rather spend their money on food and fun than a place to sleep!

Popular Parks

Regents Park, Green Park, Hyde Park, and St. James’ Park — once the privilaged hunting growund of the Kings of England — offer hours of exploration and fun. Each park has its own history and stunning views; of particular note is a spot on a bridge in St. James’ Park which affords a look back over historic Whitehall, with buildings and streets receding one after another into the distance. There are plenty of cheap London hotels within a short bus ride of what tour guides call “one of the loveliest views in London.”

Walking and Talking

How about a walk along the Thames, starting at Westminster and continuing along the South Bank to Tower Bridge? There are plenty of places to stop on the way for a bite and a break! Families with smaller children might like the London Zoo, located near Regents Park. You can also look for London hotel deals in both these areas to help keep the costs of your lodging low.

Historic Sites

London’s free museums are one of the best ways to get kids involved in London’s exciting history. Try the National Portrait Gallery and the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square or bring kids to see the Egyptian exhibition at the British Museum. Don’t forget the dinosaurs at the National History Museum in Kensington, or the adjoining Science Museum. Just over the road is the astonishing V&A with its unrivalled collection of textiles and fashion. There are loads of cheap London hotels and hostels near these locations, just waiting for you to book your stay and take advantage of their family atmosphere.

The Best Place to Stay?

London is a huge city, and each neighborhood has its own character. Families with children should look for places close to or within London Transport’s Zone 1. Even here, cheap London hotels are easy to come by and will help you save your money for theatre tickets, shopping, and admission to some of the capital’s fantastic exhibits. If you’re staying for more than a few days, it’s a good idea to get a pay-as-you-go Oyster card which will cut fares even more.
