Extend Your Summer Into Winter

By Roo Sadegi

Instead of taking a literal approach to the end of the summer, curtailing all travel the minute that the calendar proclaims the end of the season, you can extend your summer fun into the winter by doing some end of the season travel. As long as you don’t have children to worry about packing off to school or other family commitments, there’s no reason whatsoever why you shouldn’t squeeze a little bit more fun out of the summer. The best part of all about indulging in a bit of last minute travel is that there are many great deals to be had.

Business As Usual? Not Quite!

This is the time of year when you’ll hear most people moaning about the end of summer and the return to the drudgery of work and everyday obligations. However, just because summer’s over doesn’t have to mean it’s back to business as usual for you. Surprise yourself and be a little bit impulsive by getting out and going on a brief sojourn to a fun destination right as the seasons are set to change. Those same people who are complaining about the return to nine-to-five hours will probably be inspired by your carefree, late summer fling and may even follow in your footsteps soon after, planning a trip of their very own.

See And Do Practically Anything

Fun-filled holidays don’t have to be reserved for June, July and August. In fact, traveling only during those times typically means paying a lot more for accommodation and other travel arrangements. By heading out for a holiday during the back to school season — or as winter approaches — you can take your pick from many discount hotels. Hotels experience a major slowdown during this time of year, so many are more than amenable to offering dramatically slashed rates to the guests who choose to book right now. Take advantage of discount hotels by venturing out during this less traditional travel season – you’ll save a veritable bundle.

Set Your Out of Office and Go

Just when many people are settling in for the long, cold winter, you can do something a bit daring and put your out of office on at work for all of your incoming calls and emails. Let them know that you’re taking a short holiday, then book your hotels and be on your way. The freewheeling feeling of heading out for a holiday during a nontraditional time of year is really exhilarating; your trip will be that much more memorable and stick out in your mind a lot longer, simply due to the fact that it’s off-season travel. While your coworkers are digging in for the long haul, you’ll be out enjoying a respite from the tumult of every day life – what could be better?
