Finding an Edinburgh Hotel at festival time
While Scotland is one of the most popular and breathtaking areas to visit at any time of year, there is perhaps no better holiday than one that revolves around the Edinburgh Festival.
Originally founded in 1947 as a post-war initiative to raise the spirits of a worn nation, it wasn’t long before the Edinburgh International Festival began to inspire other theatrical and production companies to host their own events as well. This meant instead of one single festival, there would in fact be a number of festivals taking place in the city throughout August and all in Edinburgh; and some even in direct competition with one another. The best example of this is The Fringe, a host of alternative entertainment experiences including dozens of comedy venues all fighting for audiences.
Of course all of this competition and activity has a tendency to spill over and influence some of the Edinburgh hotels during the festival season, as well.
But with all this publicity comes a problem for anyone travelling to “Auld Reekie” (old Scots for Old Smoky) in August; and that is of course finding Edinburgh hotels that are close enough to all the action yet still affordable enough so that you’ll be able to enjoy your holiday to the fullest.
It is important to remember, however, that the Edinburgh Festival is not one single event, but rather a collection of numerous and independent festivals, events, activities and attractions that are all ran by different organisations.
This includes a huge variety of operas, plays, music, comedy, and even more. But as one expect, all of this fun makes finding cheap hotels particularly difficult; even for those who live close by and are familiar with the city of Edinburgh. Hotels can still be hard to find in August; but thankfully this task has been made far easier thanks to online booking websites offering affordable Edinburgh hotels, even during Festival month!
The best part of a large online retailer is that they have the size of operation to find you cheap hotels that are right in the middle of all the action, so you won’t have to miss anything that the Festival has to offer.
